BR24 Broadband Radar™ Software

The 2.9.273 BR24 software release is now available and replaces version 2.9.270, 2.8.240 and 2.8.251.

BR24 Broadband Radars occasionally require a software upgrade. This is generally to implement new features or improve functionality. The Lowrance BR24 Broadband Radar can be easily upgraded in the field using a Lowrance HDS Multifunction Display (MFD) with memory card slot.

Copy the update to your SD/MMC card
  1. Make sure the SD/MMC card reader is properly connected to your computer (and, if necessary, that the drivers are installed).
  2. Insert a blank SD/MMC card that is 512MB or larger into the SD/MMC card reader.
  3. Transfer the BR23 2.9.273 software files to your SD/MMC card.

    Click on the link, unzip the .zip file and copy the Radar.riw file to your SD/MMC card. 
  4. BR24 2.9.273 is a 2 MB file.


Installing the 2.9.273 software update on your BR24 Broadband Radar
Important things to remember
  • Do not remove the portable drive during the upgrade process
  • Do not turn off the display or remove power from the radar during an upgrade
  • Do not start the upgrade when the radar is in transmit mode
  1. Start your HDS and then enter Standby.
    Do not start the upgrade when radar is transmitting! Note: Make sure the Portable drive with the upgrade file is NOT inserted when the HDS first starts.
  2. Open the Chart Card door on your HDS to expose the SD Card reader. Insert your SD Card into the card reader. Insert the card all the way in until it clicks and stays in place.

  3. Press the PAGES and use the left or right arrows to select the Waypoints, routes, trails menu. Down arrow to highlight Files then press ENTER.
  4. Highlight the memory card then press right arrow to display the contents of the card.
  5. Select the file “Radar.riw”.
  6. Press MENU and select Upgrade.
  7. Highlight the radar device in the list, then press enter to select the radar.
  8. Press MENU then highlight “Start Upgrade” Press ENTER.
  9. The upgrade process will begin. The update will take about two minutes and display the following messages.


  10. After the upgrade has finished. Take the time to verify the upgrade has been successful. Check the software version on the status page by pressing; MENU>MENU>RADAR> INSTALLATION>RADAR STATUS.

Fault Codes when used with HDS

Fault Code Meaning
0x00010001 Zero bearing fault.
0x00010002 Bearing pulse fault (parameter 1 =sensor error. Parameter 2 = quadrature sensor error).
0x00010003 Motor not turning.
0x00010004 No communication with antenna.
